MANILA, Philippines – A Christmas tree decorated with Filipiniana-inspired ornaments and trimmings of buri and capiz bagged the 2012 Annual Christmas Tree Decorating Challenge.
Organized by the Museum of Canadian Civilization (CMC) in Ottawa-Gatineau, the result of the competition was announced only last January 13, 2013.
“The Philippine tree was by the far the favorite among CMC visitors,” the CMC said.
With the win, the Philippines will be given the honor and opportunity to decorate the 10-foot winner’s tree in the next challenge.
Visitors to the museum were delighted to see the decorated trees and at the same time, better understand Canada’s diverse communities.
Philippines’ participation was made possible by the collaboration of the Philippine Embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Cultural Diplomacy Unit, with the Philippine Heritage Foundation of Canada (PHFC) and with the support of TN Philippines, who supplied the trimmings and ornaments.
