MANILA, Philippines – Three Filipina-Canadians were honored with the Diamond Jubilee Medal of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Canada.
Norma Carpio, Amy Ada and Minda Neri received the award during an investiture ceremony held at the Legislative Building at Toronto’s Queen’s Park last December 12.
Carpio, president of the Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) was awarded for her leadership in fostering unity and collaboration among Filipinos and other ethnic groups; for promoting Philippine culture and heritage; and for organizing cultural festivals and promoting young Filipino talent.
Ada, on the other hand, was honored for her leadership in advocating causes within the Filipino-Canadian community and for being a living proof that newcomers to Canadian society need not leave behind the heritage of their country behind.
Neri, a former president of PIDC, was awarded for her volunteer work and significant contributions in promoting cultural understanding through appreciation of Philippine heritage and culture.
The Provincial Government of Ontario distributed around 2,000 Diamond Jubilee Medals to worthy recipients to give recognition to their remarkable accomplishments and important contributions to society.
The Honorable Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, presided over the investiture ceremony and lauded the awardees for making a difference, for their inspiration and example, and for their constant efforts to foster a better world.
Consul-General Junever Mahilum-West represented the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto at the investiture ceremony.
